Nine times out of ten when you ask me how I’m doing, I’ll say that I’m very busy. From managing project proposals at work to coaching my son’s baseball team, I have a lot on my plate. Discovering Kona at Deltek’s Insight 2012 made a huge difference for me because it provides one place where I am able to capture important discussions, plan meetings & events, and more, making it easier for me to do everything in my life.
I am the Marketing & Proposal Manager at MELE Associates, a company that provides program management, information systems, technology, and engineering solutions for business and government.
At the end of last year we were awarded a $300 million contract vehicle that enabled us to bid on more than 20 different contracts within the Federal Government in a short timeframe. It was at this time that I introduced Kona to my colleagues, as it would be integral for us to adopt a tool that would allow us to successfully maintain ongoing collaboration between the 20 different geographically dispersed partners and sub-contractors involved in the opportunity.
Prior to using Kona, we had relied on email and SharePoint to exchange ideas & information, manage tasks, and store important files. But this limited our potential to succeed; we faced challenges with access privileges for external people, bandwidth, file sizes and more. Kona provided an environment that was cloud-based and open to those that were authorized, while ensuring ongoing connectivity through Kona Mobile applications for both iOS and Android devices. We were also able to effectively capture task orders and keep all involved parties up to speed.
What began as a very large and challenging opportunity turned into a great business experience with real awards, including most recently a $17 million security contract award. By adding conversation and context around each part of the process, I observed strong interactions and a fast sense of understanding. In fact, some of our accounting team members are now using Kona to share invoices and I certainly see long-term potential for expanded use across the business.
Kona has become one of my company’s most valuable applications for managing multi-million dollar processes and solutions with countless partners on a daily basis—whether we’re at our desks or on-the-go. As someone that often spends 12 hours a day at the office, Kona is very beneficial across my life.
